My Conscience

I have a bosom friend
Whom I have never seen in my entirety.
He has been there for me all my life,
Even when I cry and when I laugh
Yet I have never had a glimpse of how he looks.

Though he has been invincible to me,
But I unequivocally feel his companionship
As has often visits me.

His name is CONSCIENCE!

Sometimes he meddles into my affairs,
He besieges me even when I feel like being alone
Sometimes he makes me feel embittered
Has he often judge me.

Even when I have succeeded in giving everyone a false impression
That I am innocent and above suspicion,
He visits me and triggers me to have introspection,
Then he finally lambastes me for my transgression.

He is capable,
To make me feel culpable
For my cruelness.

Sometimes he makes me very shambolic,
And could make me confess my vices
Even in the public.

Sometimes I tried to stay aloof
But it seems unviable
As he is sent from above

Oh dear Conscience,
Forgive me for my ungratefulness
Now I know how much you’re worth in my life
For you are my upholder.
Oh I remember,
How you often make me feel inwardly bitter,
Just so I could be better.

Though sometimes you treat me like your puppet
But now I realize you are more that a friend,
For you are like my prophet.
You’ve revitalized my morals and often make me amend
Just so I could be a step near being perfect.

Harkening to your words
Was so important to heal my heart and soul.
For if it weren’t for you,
What would I have become?
A heartless and cruel being I reckon,
Thanks for being my beacon.

Little Light

I have a little light,
That I carry about every where I go.
It lies right in my heart,
And it illuminates my soul.
But just so you know,
It’s been there from my birth,
And now that I am grown,
I still see it glow.

Whenever it is on,
Hatemongers become afraid,
They get so dazed,
That they bundle their luggages and run.
As it gives all colors of rays,
Even with the color dun.
It always lights up my ways.
Just like the sun,
It sees me through the day.

But now I have a mission.
This little light of mine,
With a true spark of divine
I wanna let it shine,
To the whole of our nation (Nigeria)
And save us from our depression
As everyday we hear sad news from our radio and television
And now we have a wrong impression
About our nation.

Oh dear little light,
Now you have to get so bright
And save us (Nigerians) from our plight
Till misfortune is out of our sight
And everything becomes alright.

But then I decipher the expression in my haters’ eyes,
They want my light to die
So that I can cry.
But soon they’ll realize,
That no matter how hard they try
The light would still get so bright
Like the sun in the sky.
And when they ask me why?
I’ll just look at them and smile.

Then I’ll refer them to the book of life,
As therein the truth lies;
“For it is HIM that who lightens up my light,
The Lord my God lightens up my darkness” (Prov. 18:28)
Perhaps, you hatemongers wanna give him a try
To light up your lamp just like mine.

Then again I’ll refer you back to the book of life
In psalm chapter thirty six verse nine
“For with him is the fountain of life,
And in his light shall you see light”
This is my opine.

As for this little light of mine,
I am gonna let it shine!
Till everything becomes fine!
